Enchanted Rock is an enormous pink granite pluton rock formation located in the Llano Uplift. Just north of Fredericksburg, Texas, a quaint must see stop for lunch, art, and shopping; Enchanted Rock covers approximately 640 acres (260 ha) and rises approximately 425 feet (130 m) above the surrounding terrain to an elevation of 1,825 feet (556 m) above sea level.
It is the largest of it's kind in the United States. With panoramic views, miles of hiking trailes, camping, rock climbing, caving and wildlife; it's more then just a big pink rock. The vernal pools are where microscopic fairy shrimp lay dormant during droughts, and then come to life when rainwater fills the small bowled habitats that cover the surface of the rock.
